C-Weed three (Released
October 2003)
Four years after the release of the second C-Weed compilation, Universal Music
has released C-Weed Three a double album compilation featuring 40 of KwaZulu-Natal's
finest unsigned original rock bands or artists.
Released in 1997 and 1999 respectively, the two earlier compilations – C-Weed and C-Weed version 2.0 – enjoyed phenomenal success, especially as far as exposure and publicity for South African music was concerned. Both projects, including the latest project, took over a year to complete and served to not only create an awareness of local talent but also to propel the bands into the public eye.
Over the years, the C-Weed story has received extensive media coverage both locally and abroad, and even featured prominently in international music magazine, BILLBOARD (5 April 1997), under the headline: "Durban Steals Spotlight in South Africa."
Using the same winning formula, the C-Weed Three double album compilation will feature one original track from each of the 40 bands / artists selected, and will also be released at a lower price, making it more accessible to South African music lovers.
“As a leader in the world music industry, Universal Music wants to show its support for local music by showcasing the amazing talent that abounds in KwaZulu-Natal,” says Marketing and Promotions Manager, Pedro Carlo. “The C-Weed Three compilation will be a great marketing vehicle for the 40 unsigned artists and groups featured on the double album, who have the talent, attitude and desire to go places.”
Durban’s Richard Every has once again come up with an exciting sleeve design, while Tropical Sweat Studios with Dave Birch as engineer and co-producer, was also involved in the C-Weed Three project.

C-Weed Version 2.0 (Released October 1999)
A CD compilation featuring some of
Durban's finest unsigned rock bands, was released in 1997 and enjoyed
phenomenal success. Much-talked about and virtually a household name
amongst South African music lovers, the C-Weed album helped to propel
the rich and varied talents of many of our local artists into the public
eye.
Two years later in October 1999, Universal Music (formerly PolyGram SA) released
C-Weed Version 2.0, a compilation of 19 original rock songs from Durban's best
and as yet unsigned bands. Compiled again by Pedro Carlo, sleeve design by Richard
Every, recorded at Tropical Sweat Studio, engineered and produced by Squeal's
Dave Birch.
The C-Weed Version 2.0 line-up includes: Butternut, Caffeine Substitute, Jane

Myrrh, Copper Penny, Fruit Fly Navigators, Edenroc, Fat Agnes, Cloud 9, 33, Ichabod,
Babadoll
A great marketing vehicle for local unsigned bands, C-Weed Version 2.0 is available
at retail outlets countrywide and has been released at a lower price, making
it more accessible to South African music lovers.

C-Weed one (Released July
1997)
A 1997 CD compilation featuring 19 of Durban's finest unsigned rock
bands. This project released by PolyGram SA and compiled by Pedro Carlo,
took over a year to complete. The main aim was to create an awareness
of local talent and propel the bands into the public eye.
Recognising the potential of Durban bands and the wealth of unknown talent, PolyGram
SA embarked on the C-Weed project to popularise and acknowledge South African
and particularly Durban rock musicians.
Of the more than 60 demo tapes received in 1996, 19 tracks were selected for
inclusion on the C-Weed album, which was produced in Durban by Dave Birch and
engineered by Neil Snyman of Durban Beach Studios. The C-Weed compilation is,
in fact, "100% home-grown" - the concept, the musicians, production, engineering
and recording, even the sleeve which was designed by Durbanite, Richard Every.
Bands featured on the album are: Caffeine Substitute, 108, S.W.A.R.M, Turquoise,
Breathe, Strangeways, Free Taxi, Manchuri Resin, Nevermore, Stonedhenge, Tara,
Anarchy, Paradigm Slip, Blind, Angabug, Schedule 7, Black Arthur Morris, Khaki
Tango and Dax Martin, who together give you over 70 minutes of original rock,
from contemporary to hard-core.
The C-WEED story has already received extensive media coverage including front
page of international music magazine "BILLBOARD" (5 April 1997) - "Durban Steals
Spotlight In South Africa".
