Some background :

A former KZN Marketing Manager for record labels like PolyGram and Universal Music, not only did Pedro get to work with international touring artists such as Bon Jovi, Sting, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Counting Crows, Chris de Bergh, Rodriguez and INXS, but he was also instrumental in the signing of many successful local bands.

Additionally he spearheaded a project that saw the release by Universal Music of a series of C-Weed CD Compilations featuring KZN’s finest unsigned original rock bands and artists. Released in 1997, 1999 and 2003 the albums went on to enjoy great exposure both locally and abroad, even featuring prominently in international music magazine BILLBOARD, under the headline “Durban Steals Spotlight in South Africa.

Another feather in C-Weed’s cap is the fact that it played a major role in the success of the iconic Splashy Fen Music Festival through a 17-year involvement with the event.

Pedro first got a taste for Splashy Fen in 1995 when Arapaho, a band that he managed on behalf of PolyGram, performed at the festival.   He was hooked!! In 1998 he joined the Splashy team as a stage and programme manager, going on to be appointed as general manager in 2003. He later took over the running of Splashy in 2010 when the festival rights were leased to C-Weed.

After a wonderful run, notching up many milestones along the way, C-Weed decided to hang up its Splashy gumboots in June 2015. A decision contributed to by the loss of festival founder and farm owner Peter Ferraz, who passed away in October 2014.

C-Weed is also proud to have initiated the much-loved annual White Mountain Festival, an acoustic music festival organised in conjunction with its then partners at White Mountain Lodge. Held in the foothills of the Giant’s Castle Nature Reserve in the scenic Central Drakensberg, this gem of a festival was established in 2006 and ran until 2019, after which the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdowns saw the lodge being closed for business.

Over the years, C-Weed has also been involved in the staging of numerous other concerts and live music events at venues ranging from Suncoast and Sibaya to WaveHouse and the Shongweni Farmer’s Market. C-Weed also had a long association with Northwood Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North, providing entertainment consultancy, DJ services and function/event bookings, as well as introducing the hugely popular Sol Sunday Sessions in 2017. Later rebranded to Soul Sunday Sessions, these live music showcases ran until the end of 2022 at Crusaders before finding a new home.

Having started his career in the music industry as a DJ, Pedro was well-known in the 80s and 90s for his residencies at clubs like The Sands, Ruby Tuesday, Raffles, CC’s and Hard Rock Café. This passion has never died and DJ Pedro is just as much in demand today as he ever was. Catering to all music tastes, ranging from current hits to the hits of yesteryear and everything in between, his party nights have become almost legendary! Catch him every Friday and Saturday night at Mulligan’s Irish Pub and Eatery in Durban North!

Working alongside Pedro is his wife Mandy, who has a background in corporate communication and handles the administration, marketing and publicity side of things.
